Special Demonstration Route for commuters begins September 15, 2008

In response to the needs of Schuylkill County workers struggling with the high cost of fuel, STS is rolling out a new fixed route for commuters as part of a demonstration project to test the level of support in the eastern part of the county.

Beginning on Monday, Sept 15, the route will accommodate the communities of Barnesville, Hometown, Tamaqua, Tuscarora, Mary D, Brockton, Middleport, Kaska, New Philadelphia, Cumbola, Port Carbon, Mechanicsville.

The route departs the Ryan Township Firehouse in Barnesville at 7:05 AM for a run to Pottsville, arriving at City Hall at 8:05 AM.

The return trip from Pottsville leaves City Hall at 4:35.

This demonstration project has been established at the request of County employees and private businesses concerned about reducing the impact of the higher travel costs in getting to work today. If community support fails to materialize the route will be discontinued.
